The Church on a Mission Day 1

Day 1: Grounded in God's Word

The church in Antioch set a powerful precedent as the first congregation to intentionally send missionaries. Their effectiveness stemmed from three key priorities: being grounded in God's Word, maintaining God-centered worship, and demonstrating dependence through prayer and fasting. These foundations enabled them to understand God's character, align with His purposes, and trust His direction. Their willingness to send their best leaders sparked a movement that transformed the ancient world and continues to influence global missions today.

Devotional

Have you ever noticed how spending time with someone influences your behavior? The same principle applies to our relationship with God through His Word. When we immerse ourselves in Scripture, we begin to understand His heart and character more deeply. Just as the church in Antioch prioritized biblical teaching, we too need to root ourselves in God's Word. This isn't just about gaining knowledge; it's about transformation. As we study Scripture, we begin to see God's heart for the lost and His desire to reach every nation. This understanding shapes our perspectives and priorities, moving us from being passive believers to active participants in God's mission.

"How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!’"
- Romans 10:14-15

Reflection Question

How has your understanding of God's character through His Word influenced your desire to participate in His mission?

Being taught the Word,
when you study his character,
it will not take you long to discover
and treasure the fact that
God is a God on mission.
— Pastor Mike Mura

Prayer

Lord, help me to hunger for Your Word and let it transform my heart. Show me Your character more clearly through Scripture, and align my desires with Your mission. Amen.
